The RPLIDAR A2 is a high-performance 360° laser scanner designed to deliver precise environmental mapping for a wide range of robotics applications. With its clockwise rotating range, it provides full-scan coverage of the surroundings, allowing for accurate and real-time mapping of any environment. One of its standout features is a significantly improved LIDAR sample rate of up to 8000 samples per second, made possible through advanced internal optical design and algorithm optimization. This enables the RPLIDAR A2 to collect more data points, enhancing the robot’s ability to quickly and accurately interpret its surroundings.
Thanks to further algorithm refinement, the range radius has been extended up to 16 meters, allowing for the generation of larger and more detailed maps. At the heart of the RPLIDAR A2 is an innovative non-contact brushless motor that replaces traditional belt drive systems, significantly reducing mechanical friction. This not only ensures quiet and smooth operation but also enhances reliability over long-term use.
A key technological advancement in the RPLIDAR A2 is Slamtec’s exclusive OPTMAG technology, which replaces conventional slip rings with a wireless power and optical communication system. This eliminates the mechanical wear and tear typical of traditional systems, resulting in a longer-lasting and more dependable performance. Combined with its brushless motor, the RPLIDAR A2 is built for continuous 24/7 operation for up to five years, showcasing remarkable durability and reliability.
Despite its powerful features, the RPLIDAR A2 maintains a compact and slim profile with a thickness of only 4 cm, making it ideal for integration into service robots and other compact systems. It is also fully compliant with the Class 1 laser safety standard, utilizing a modulated pulse low-power infrared laser light source that is safe for both humans and pets.
